Oak parquet flooring is made from oak blocks or strips arranged in patterns such as herringbone, chevron, basket weave or Versailles. White oak and red oak differ in tone, grain and porosity: white oak is generally paler with tyloses that can slow moisture movement, while red oak tends to show a warmer, more open grain. Quartersawn oak can reveal ray fleck, which adds character. Andiwilson supports projects by reviewing species, cut, grade, block thickness, moisture content and finish before order. Illustrative specifications often use 15–22 mm blocks, 70–120 mm wide. Installation may be secret-nail over battens, glue-down over concrete or nail-down over joists, with a vapour barrier where required. Acclimatisation and subfloor moisture checks are agreed before fitting. Oak accepts oil, lacquer and stain, but tannin can react with some finishes, so sample approval matters. Pattern set-out and dry-lay help control cutting waste and align borders. Andiwilson provides care notes covering dry mopping, neutral cleaner and periodic finish inspection. Performance depends on species, site humidity and maintenance, so project teams should confirm current technical documents and installation guidance before ordering.
